After the fourth cut- off, DU undergraduate admission season has come to an end. This has prompted students to pick the second-best option. School of Open Learning (SOL), University of Delhi, can be an alternative option which students can opt for as it has a capacity of more than 1 lakh for its five undergraduate courses offered in the distance learning mode.
This year, the SOL has received more than 95,000 applications and the admission process which started on October 20 will close on November 30. Currently, it offers BA (Programme), BCom (Programme), BA English (H), BA Political Science (H), and BCom (H). Last year, close to 1.5 lakh students took admission in these courses.
“Out of the total registrations till date, more than 30,000 students have confirmed their admission by making the payment. Similar to the regular courses, SOL has also noticed an increase in demand for BA Political Science (H) programme,” says Umashankar Pandey, officiating principal, SOL. The authorities are hopeful that registration will pick up after the closure of DU undergraduate admissions. Due to pandemic, the application window was opened for a shorter time and as per the regulations, it has to close the admission by November 30.
“In 2019, close to 14,000 students took admissions in Political Science (H) programme. The number is likely to increase this year as per the current trend. While English and BCom (H) programmes had 5000 and 8000 enrolments respectively,” Pandey adds.
Political Science has traditionally been the favourite subject for those aspiring to crack the civil services. “The trend is again picking up,” he says. Since the start of the registration, SOL has received highest applications for BA Programme (16,328) followed by BCom (6355). “In three honours courses, Political Science has the highest number of registrations (3857) followed by BCom (2365) and BA English (1063) programme,” he adds.
Out of total confirmed admissions, 46.2% applications are from women, while male candidates represent 53.8% population. Currently, close to 5 lakh candidates are enrolled with DU’s SOL.
