Diesel demand dips 5%, petrol sales flatten out

NEW DELHI: Diesel consumption contracted 5% in the first fortnight of November from a year ago after rising 6% in October and petrol sales tapered off to a level seen in the year-ago period after rising 4% last month, latest fuel sales data showed.
On monthly basis, however, diesel demand grew 7.7% in the fortnight under review from the level seen in the same period last month. Similarly, petrol sales rose 4.7% month-on-month.
Jet fuel sales during the fortnight were 52.8% lower from a year ago but on a month-on-month basis showed an increase of 1.3%. In October, jet fuel sales were down 50% from a year-ago period.
Surprisingly, LPG, or cooking gas, consumption also showed a decline of 2% in the first half of November from a year ago. In contrast, consumption has been rising between 3-4% every month, the data shows.
