When you lose someone close you are left speechless, confused. You don’t know what to do, what to say. Celebrated actress Rituparna Sengupta feels the same right now. “A star with whom I was quite fortunate to work with has fallen from the sky today. I don’t know what I want to say, how I will handle this grief. I was sad for quite some time. Soumitra Jethu’s condition left me in great shock. He was unwell earlier also, but every time bounced back to be with us. Since that day, 25-26 years ago, when I stepped into Tollywood I had his blessings throughout my career. I don’t know if I have received so much love and life changing lessons from any other person in the industry. Today it feels the roof is gone,” shared Rituparna Sengupta in an exclusive chat with ETimes.
She recalls how enriching it was to hear the conversation between Aparna Sen and Soumitra Chattopadhyay during the ‘Basu Poribaar’ shoot’. “Recently we were shooting for Basu Poribaar’. One day I got the chance to listen to Aparna Sen and Soumitra Kaku’s conversation on the set. I will always remember those words. Be it Jibanananda or Rabindranath, whatever the topic maybe it’s just so much to learn from these senior people. ‘Praktan’ was another film where I saw him reciting hathat dakha and we were all enthralled and mesmerised, we all had goose bumps, During ‘Belasuru’ shoot we had a train journey where he kept on singing and reciting, we heard him, we sat around him like a full family …He was like a child reciting one after the other tirelessly with a smile,” remembers Rituparna.
