




Bollywood actor Asif Basra was found dead at a private guest house in Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday. SSP Kangra Vimukt Ranjan had confirmed to ANI, “Film actor Asif Basra was found hanging in a private complex in Dharamshala. Forensic team is at the spot and police is investigating the matter. Prima facie it is a case of suicide but we are investigating the cause. The body has been sent for postmortem” Asif Basra was 53 years old.

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta was one of the first to express grief when news about Asif Basra’s death was reported. “Asif Basra! Can’t be true… This is just very, very sad.” Manoj Bajpayee also expressed shock revealing that he has worked with Asif just before lockdown, “What? This is too shocking!! Asif was born in Amravati and had moved to Mumbai in 1989. According to his website, Asif held B.Sc (Physics) degree and had started his journey as a theatre artist. Over the past decade, Asif has conducted over 50 workshops specialising in leadership, communication and team building at work place. He also featured in several international films like ‘Outsourced’ and ‘One Night with the King’ with Omar Sharif and Peter O’Toole.
In Bollywood, Asif had featured in numerous hits, from 2004 release ‘Black Friday’ to 2007 hit ‘Jab We Met’. He also essayed a pivotal role in Sushant Singh Rajput starrer ‘Kai Po Che’. His last Bollywood appearance was in 2019 release ‘The Tashkent Files’, wherein he shared the frame with Shweta Basu Prasad, Naseeruddin Shah and Mithun Chakraborty.
In his close to two-decade long career, Asif played Emraan Hashmi’s father in ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai’, which also starred Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut, Prachi Desai and Randeep Hooda. He also featured in a pivotal role in Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut starrer ‘Krrish 3’, and was also seen in Saif Ali Khan’s ‘Kaalakaandi’ as well as Rani Mukerji starrer ‘Hichki’. Asif Basra had also played an important role in National Award winning Gujarati film ‘Wrong Side Raju’ (2016).
