People in Bihar didn’t stick to rules amid polls: Central team

NEW DELHI: Though Covid-19 situation in Bihar has so far remained under control despite large-scale campaign and public events in the state in the run-up to the polls, a visiting central government team found that adherence to Covid norms like wearing masks, maintaining physical distance and hand hygiene was “less than satisfactory” outside the urban centres.
The health ministry maintained that though the situation looks under control as of now, what has happened in last few days may manifest in coming weeks.
“We had deputed a central team to Bihar during the poll campaigning period. We had found certain good practices but also found areas of concern, particularly outside urban centres where wearing of masks, maintenance of physical distance and hand hygiene were less than satisfactory. Those findings have been shared with the state government,” health secretary Rajesh Bhushan said.
He said though the Bihar government initiated corrective action based on feedback from the central team, any spread of the infection will be known in the coming days.
