KOLKATA: The West Bengal Private Schools Association, in its first meeting held at Saltlake Shiksha Niketan on Tuesday, decided to seek a meeting with CM Mamata Banerjee and education minister Partha Chatterjee to request the government to reopen the campuses that have remained closed in Bengal since March. Management members and principals of more than 100 schools also deliberated on the parents’ agitation and decided to draw up a roadmap to reach out to them.
“While schools have been given a go-ahead to resume physical classes in states like UP, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Assam, the situation is different here. As of now, the earliest possibility to resume on-campus class is from December since the CM will take the final call,” said a school principal. He added that the prolonged closure is affecting the progress of students appearing in board exams. “If class X and XII exams are held in time, the students require to attend practical classes and schools should hold doubt-clearing sessions,” he pointed out. While CBSE and CISCE have already curtailed syllabus, the state board is yet to make any such changes.
Among other topics discussed on Tuesday were the implementation of the National Education Policy and SOPs that are to be adopted by schools before reopening the classrooms. “Many school authorities opined that parents should be invited to schools to look into the infrastructure and safety measures. The institutes will abide by the guidelines set by the Centre, the state and the boards,” said another school principal.
“We are ready with the SOPs. But, we are waiting for the final order. It is a matter of four to five days to make the necessary arrangements. Initially, we will propose to reopen the school for senior classes,” said Nabarun De, principal of Central Modern School.
The fee issue was also discussed on Tuesday. “In future, the core committee of the association will nominate members who will immediately rush to schools in case of any disturbances,” said a school administrator. Source From : Times Of India
