UGC to release JRF/ SRF this week

NEW DELHI: Coming as a big relief to thousands of research scholars, the University Grants Commission (UGC) will disburse the emoluments to the Junior Research Fellows (JRF) and Senior Research Fellow (SRF) between Wednesday-Thursday. According to the Commission the technical issues which had delayed the disbursal has been resolved and along with the existing emoluments, the backlog would also be cleared and the fellowships would be deposited in the respective accounts.

The JRF scheme of the UGC is open to candidates who qualify in the National Eligibility Testing (NET) of the UGC and the UGC-Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) joint test and the tenure of fellowship is initially for two years.

According to Rajnish Jain, secretary, UGC, “There were some technical problems due to change in financial procedures which resulted in delay. However, the technical issues have been resolved and the fellowship emoluments will be deposited in the accounts of the research fellow in two to three days.”

The fellowships have been pending for a few months now, the arrears for which will also be cleared along with. The government in 2019 enhanced the JRF emoluments from Rs 25,000 to Rs 31,000 per month. The SRF too was enhanced to Rs 35,000 per month from Rs 28,000.
The emoluments for the three categories of research associates too were enhanced, with the research associated – III, the highest category from Rs 40,000 to Rs 54,000 per month.

In the June 2019 UGC-NET exam 51,000 candidates qualified for eligibility for assistant professors, while 4,756 of them have qualified for JRF.
