




VISAKHAPATNAM: The YSRCP Rajya Sabha member V Vijayasai Reddy complained to the Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) about the Gitam university violations in construction of buildings and also others.
He requested the Chairman AICTE to constitute an enquiry committee to inspect the premises of Gitam to examine whether the varsity complied with the norms and standards specified by the AICTE from time to time and whether it is in possession of undisputed land records and also whether fulfilled the requirements for the increase in intake year after year in different branches, besides submit a comprehensive and factual report after inspection. A stern action should be taken against the varsity after receipt of the report of enquiry committee.
It is recalled that the district revenue department claimed that the Gitam varsity has encroached 40.51 acres of government land and constructed some of its academic buildings in it. The authorities demolished a few structures including the boundary wall 10 days ago. .
In a letter to the AICTE chairman Anil Sahasrabuddi, the YSRCP general secretary Vijayasai Reddy informed that Gitam varsity has built certain buildings of Engineering branches in the land of the state government in violation of the norms stipulated by the AICTE.
The MP complained that certain part of the land of the Gitam is under the disputed ownership which is against the norms or clause 7.7 of the AICTE Approval Process Handbook 2020-21 read with Regulations 4.01(vii)and 9.01 of the UGC (institutions Deemed to be Universities) Regulations 2019 and clause 4.51(b) of the AICTE Approval process hand book 2020-21.
MP Vijayasai said that Mechanical Engineering Department building and part of Civil Engineering Department building in the AP government land encroached by the varsity unlawfully without clear title in its name.
“The Land Use Certificate and the Building plan approval seems to have been obtained from the then competent authority illegally, through manipulation,” he said in the letter.
He also mentioned that the university has submitted a false affidavit in Format 5 as required under the clause 4.6 (g) and 4.12 of the AICTE Approval Process Handbook 2020-21. The Varsity is increasing intake by adding new sections or divisions in Engineering from year to year. “There are around 20 sections for B.Tech, CSE as it is evident from the AICTE Website that intake of BTech CSE in Gitam is 1140 for the year 2019-20.
