US election 2020: Democrat Ami Bera wins re-election for California’s 7th Congressional district seat

NEW DELHI: Indian-American Democratic lawmaker Ami Bera won the re-election to the US House in California‘s 7th Congressional District for the fifth consecutive term..
As per the last reports, Bera had established an inaccessible lead by more than 25 percentage points against his Republican rival 65-year-old Buzz Patterson.
The Indian-American Democrat has represented California’s 7th Congressional District in the US House of Representatives since 2013.
Who is Dr Ami Bera?
Born and raised in California, Bera is the longest-serving Indian-American serving in the Congress.
Representative Bera is currently a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where he serves as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and Nonproliferation. He is also Vice Chair of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. Congressman Bera is a Leadership Member for the New Democrat Coalition, a group of over 100 forward-thinking Democrats who are committed to pro-economic growth, pro-innovation, and fiscally responsible policies.
Bera’s father, Babulal Bera, had immigrated to the United States from India in 1958. Ami Bera was born in Los Angeles and raised in the Orange County city of La Palma. He attended John F Kennedy High School. Bera’s parents are from Rajkot, Gujarat and he can understand Gujarati.
He has a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of California, Irvine, while he also earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from there in 1991. Bera has been a medicine professional for over 20 years.
He has lived in California for over 20 years with his wife Janine, who is also a medical doctor. They have a daughter named Sydra.
Bera has been focused on creating more jobs and opportunities in Sacramento County and helping families keep up with changes in our economy, according to his website.
