Sensex surges 504 points; Nifty ends above 11,800

NEW DELHI: Equity indices finished higher on Tuesday with the benchmark BSE sensex rising over points led by gains in banking and financial stocks amid positive global cues.
The 30-share BSE index surged 504 points or 1.27 per cent higher to close at 40,261; while the broader NSE Nifty settled 144 points or 1.24 per cent higher at 11,813.
Top gainers in the sensex pack included ICICI Bank, SBI, Power Grid, HDFC, Sun Pharma and IndusInd with their shares rising as much as 6.51 per cent.
While NTPC, Reliance, Nestle India, HCL Tech and Infosys were the top losers falling up to 3.75 per cent.
On the NSE platform, sub-indices Nifty Bank, Financial Services and Private Bank gained as much as 3.17 per cent.
India’s factory activity expanded at its fastest pace in over a decade in October, a private survey showed.
Besides, investors have also kept a keen eye on markets ahead of the US Presidential elections.
“Wall Street recovered on the eve of election day with investors appeared to be going by the late polls, which suggests Joe Biden leads over Donald Trump,” Arjun Yash Mahajan Head Institutional Business at Reliance Securities told news agency PTI.
On the currency front, rupee settled almost flat at 74.41 against the US dollar after its initial gains were erased despite strong equity markets.
Meanwhile, exchange data showed that foreign institutional investors bought equities worth Rs 740.61 crore on a net basis on Monday.
