Last date for submission of online application for the short-term programme is December 10. Duration of the internship is three weeks and the programme will be conducted during winter vacations of the institute, official sources said.
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the national institution may conduct interaction of students with faculty member via online or offline mode depending upon the situation. If the Covid-19 situation improves or government allows the higher educational institutions to start physical classes, the students can get the chance to interact with teachers via offline mode.
The candidates can apply online by visiting the institute’s website. Many students do not get an opportunity to study in IITs. During the programme, they can feel the educational atmosphere of IIT and access to its facilities. The institution will scrutinize applications of the students before allowing them for the programme, said the IIT sources.
Students can get internship in the fields related to the School of Basic Sciences, Earth, Ocean and Climate Sciences, Electrical Sciences, Infrastructure, Mechanical Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Management and Minerals, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. These students can avail laboratory and other academic facilities here.
“The students selected for internship may be provided hostel accommodation, if available, on payment of appropriate fees. The application for accommodation should reach the Dean of Student Affairs through the faculty supervisor and the head of schools for permission. The costs towards food and access to other amenities have to be paid by the student,” said a notification issued by the institute.
On completion of the internship, the student has to submit a report of the work. The institution will issue a ‘Training Completion Certificate’ to the student. But it will not award any grade for the work carried out by the interns during the programme, said sources.
