BHUBANESWAR: Higher education department has recorded 87.6 per cent turnout of students during the 11-day-long Common PG Entrance Test (CPET)-2020 which was completed on Thursday. Examination was conducted at 28 centres across the state.
Odisha conducted this test for the first time for admission into state public universities and colleges with PG courses. The test was held in three shifts per day between October 12 and October 22. Students had received one and a half hours to answer questions for 70 marks in OMR format.
According to the department sources, 62,942 candidates have appeared the CPET-2020 examinations out of the 71,789 candidates received allotment to sit for the test. Of them, six Covid-19 positive candidates had appeared the test at some examination centres including Utkal University.
Odisha state higher education council vice-chairman Asoka Kumar Das said they are planning to publish the merit list of candidates by November 10. All the admission process for PG courses will be completed by November 30, he added.
Department sources said candidates must upload their marks prior to preparation of final state merit list. So the students should upload their graduation/equivalent mark in the Student Academic Management System (SAMS) portal by November 5.
The universities conducting CPET will handover the entrance marks to Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) here by November 2 for publication of merit list. “We have already given a date for commencement of PG classes from December 3 and we will stick to that date,” said Das.
CPET will bring all universities to a single platform and students will fill a single form and sit for one entrance test for all state universities and autonomous colleges for admission into PG courses. After appearing this one test, students will get a seat in any of the state universities according to his/her eligibility and entrance performance. Previously, a student had to submit application forms separately for each university and appear for multiple entrance examinations at different dates. It was hectic and tedious.
