Farhan on his first meeting with Milkha Singh

Legendary sprinter Milkha Singh breathed his last on Friday, June 18 owing to post COVID-19 complications. While BWood mourned the loss of the iconic sportsman, bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar who had essayed the role of the ‘flying Sikh’ in the 2013 sports drama, reminisced fond memories of the sportsman and working with him.
In an interview with India Today, When asked about his first thought when the legendary Milkha Singh passed away, Farhan shares that he just overcame with many different emotions at the same time, and feels it’s an ‘incredible los’s for India’ for it’s people, for sport, for his friends and family.

The actor also shared that Milkha Ji indeed did live a long life and added ‘to his credit, he built a life for himself, that was filled with love, filled with happiness and was surrounded by people who loved him and cared for him, that even he could love and care for deeply.

‘I just feel very honoured to be a part of his journey’ muses Farhan during the interview and then adds his biggest takeaway from him — I got this wonderful opportunity to spend time with him, to listen to him and know what a wonderful person he was. He shared, when he met him his competing days were behind him.

Speaking about the biggest learning for him, Farhan proudly says that it was his ‘humility’– It’s really amazing to see somebody who is as gigantic as a personality donned by him. He is a massive sporting legend and is respected wherever he goes. It’s so good to see, how down to earth he was, and how he was a people’s man.
