CBSE improvement exam will provide options to upgrade

To offer multiple opportunities to improve their performance, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to conduct the improvement exam for the students in the same year. From this academic session, the improvement exams will be conducted soon after the main exams.
“Any candidate who would be appearing in the CBSE board exam will have an option to appear for the improvement exam, which will be held after a month or two. This year, the students will be allowed to appear for only one improvement exam. To improve their performance in more than one subject, the students can take the improvement exams in the next year,” says Sanyam Bhardwaj, controller of examinations, CBSE.
As per the usual trend, most students appear for only one improvement exam, he adds. Conducting an improvement exam along with the compartment exam in the same year will help in saving the academic year of these students. Moreover, the board is also evaluating and developing its capacity to conduct more than one improvement exam in the same year. CBSE will hopefully be able to increase the numbers of improvement exams from next year.

The decision goes in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 which advocates for providing multiple options of improvement to students, highlights Bhardwaj. The better of the two marks will be considered in the results. The move will help students to continue their education without having a delay or a gap in their study.

Bijaya Kumar Sahoo, advisor and working president, Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan, Government of Odisha says, “The decision is in alignment with NEP 2020 and will help the students to get an opportunity to upgrade their marks. The students will now benefit from the move as they will not need to wait for the next year to give the exam to get their results. It will also help the students to reduce stress and they will be emotionally balanced and perform well in the board examination.”
