Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray‘s address to the nation, a few hours from now, is the key to whether we are headed for another lockdown or not. There are bound to be several curbs. Let’s stop fooling ourselves that we ourselves are not responsible for the second wave and its surge, which is now amassing threatening proportions.
Can you imagine that quite a few people in our country are averse to taking the vaccine?
The time was right to have a quick word with Bollywood personalities to know their take on the looming crisis:
Emraan Hashmi: Following rules is the need of the hour. But how can we expect to change the scenario when we are known to flout rules even be the ones related to littering and traffic? We need to deeply introspect and become more responsible citizens. It’s not just about ourselves and our families; we need to empathise with the larger community.
Vikram Bhatt: My doctor friends tell me that this year is worse than last year. The hospitals are full. The vaccine is not completely effective and I am told that the virus is mutating at a rate faster than the vaccine. Lockdown is not on the cards because it will break the back of the economy. Herd immunity is not working against a mutating virus. The situation is very grim. In our field, an entertainer has to go out and work for a living like everyone else. But we have more chances of getting infected, given the dynamic nature of the job. Everyone will get COVID sooner or later. There is no escaping it.

Satish Kaushik
: I have suffered a lot. My daughter was in the hospital for a week after she tested positive. She was getting weaker by the day. My wife Shashi and I faced the biggest hurdle of our lives. I would earnestly request everyone to wear a mask without fail. Any kind of let-up is calling for trouble.
Sambhavna Seth: I hope there is no lockdown. Nobody wants it. Everybody wants to work now. For one year, we all saw the worst time of our lives. There has been a certain amount of leniency in every section of society. Leave aside COVID reducing, we had started believing that it never happened. The opening of the local trains has also been a major reason for the current dangerous spike.
Rashi Mal: I think hearing about COVID at one point got old and we all got a bit complacent. Taking all precautions, wearing masks, sanitising, and testing regularly is the only way forward in my opinion.
